Void Earth

An Underground Landscape for watching the Sky

Kerman, Iran

Intended as an addition for the National Observatory to accommodate the activities of astronomers and astrophysicist, this project was located in the Lut desert in Kerman, Iran. This project was proposed to be inside the excavation site for a former stone mine which is to expand the void in the land. Thus, this proposal is ‘within the earth’; a landscape inside, in which the functional parts such as the planetarium, the library and hospitality facilities are segregated and dispersed’. Different parts were designed with narratives in reference to astrophysical major theories and oriented with regard to the sky map on particular days of a year giving them a larger temporal aspect.
