Weaving Carbon fiber composites

IKEBANA: In collaboration with Ana Faria Delfino

Through an experimentation informed by weaving and knitting precedents, ‘Woven Fetus’ is an ongoing research on the weaving of pre-preg carbon fiber composites and releasing the resulting form after baked. Looking at spider webs, the research aims for a computation and fabrication process that is simultaneously the design process for 3D nets. The ‘reticular’ characteristics of such geometries materialized by highly strong fiber thus have inherent performative aspects resulting from being volumetric and yet extremely porous with the possibility of density and direction control; other than their physical performances (i.e. Structural) such formal organizations can result in kinetic qualities for architectural spaces. This technique was used in individual and collaborative installations such as IKEBANA with Ana Faria Delfino. The hand-weaving practiced, lead to experiments that initiate the Woven Fetus project.
