Hygroscopic Wood Envelopes

Published a ACADIA

The focus of this research is on exploring latent geometric deformation and emerging patterns using a pre-set array of heterogeneous wood veneers in relation to their hygroscopic properties. The ongoing study is developed through a series of experiments focused on identifying and characterizing design variables that are embedded in naturally composed veneers. It also sheds light on new design methods and techniques, by studying different weaving features pooled from the craft of basket weaving as a foundation for structured dynamic skins and their potential implementation in the realm of building envelopes as porous ventilating, lighting, shading devices.
